Relationships
The word “relationship” is a broad term that can be used to describe any type of association or connection between people, whether intimate or platonic, positive or negative. Often when people use this term, they are referring to a romantic relationship that involves emotional and physical intimacy and some level of commitment or monogamy (though this type of relationship can take many forms, from marriage to casual dating to ethical nonmonogamy). But relationships can also be more broad in nature, such as the connections we make with our friends, coworkers, neighbors, or extended family members.
In healthy relationships, the people involved feel a strong sense of togetherness and support. They respect the individuality of their partners and support them in pursuing their goals and dreams, both as individuals and as part of a larger team. They spend time talking about their day to day struggles and successes, and they learn to read their partner’s nonverbal cues so that they can pick up on how the other is feeling.
A strong relationship can bring out the best in both partners, and it’s often a joy to wake up each morning next to your one true love. However, a bad relationship can leave you feeling miserable and unfulfilled, and it’s important to keep an eye on your boundaries and the way that your partner treats you. If they consistently push against your boundaries or treat you with disrespect, it may be a red flag that they aren’t the right partner for you.
