Generally speaking, poker is a game of chance where players compete with each other to be the highest card hand. It is played with a standard deck of 52 cards. However, some games may have special wild cards or variations with more than 52 cards.
Each player gets five cards. The first three cards are face-up. The player with the highest card wins. If there is a tie, the high card breaks it. The high card is also the highest rank card in a hand. Normally, the ace is the highest rank card. If a card is ranked higher than the ace, it is considered low.
During betting rounds, all but one player can fold. If a player suspects that another player is bluffing, they can raise the bet. If everyone else calls the bet, the final round of betting begins.
If all players have the same card, it is considered a straight. If all five of the cards are the same suit, it is considered a flush. If there are two or more cards of the same suit in the hand, it is a full house.
The best natural hand is a straight flush, which is a flush of five cards of the same suit. The ace of diamonds can be used low to make a straight.
A hand of four of a kind is four cards of the same rank. The higher the rank, the better. A higher rank four of a kind is called a royal flush.
